Do I need a visa for East Africa?
Yes, you will need a visa for all countries. WildTrek will provide you with visa applications, and instructions for completing the visa.
What kind of accommodations will I stay in?
Accommodations are either in safari lodges or in tented camps. Lodges are much like a motor lodge in the U.S. Tented camps are in place camps with walkin tents and attached bath facilities. Many visitors prefer the tented camp as it affords opportunities to hear the night sounds and are generally smaller with fewer guests. Accommodations range from budget class to the very luxury class. Most opt for a mid range accommodation, which provides more amenities but not nearly as expensive as luxury class. Most lodges and camps are either located with in the park or reserve or just outside.
When should I book my safari?
In order to assure that you get the lodges and camps that you want, you should book your safari at least 4-6 months in advance of arrival. If you are go to do your safari in the optimal months, you should book at least 6 months or more in advance of your arrival.
What type of vehicles will we be in on safari?
WildTrek safaris have a fleet of modern well maintained mini-buses and Land Cruisers with open hatch (roof). All the vehicles have long distance two-way radios to keep in touch with others and our main office.
Are any cultural activities included?
There are over 40 tribal groups in Kenya, however not all are receptive to tourist visitors. However you have the option of visiting museums dedicated to cultural interests. You can also visit homesteads for the Maasai and Kikuyu peoples. Tanzania does not have the widespread cultural heritage existing in Kenya, but there are selected tribes that will entertain visitors, the Maasai and the Hadze.
Do you provide international airfare?
WildTrek will be happy to make your international air arrangements. Nairobi is served by Emirates Air, Qatar Airways, KLM, British Airways, South African Airways, and Kenya Airways. If flying into Arusha, Tanzania, KLM is the only option.
What should I pack to bring along?
Once you have booked your safari, you will be provided with a detailed book which outlines what you should pack, information on the country you will be traveling in, food, meds, photography, cultural history and more.
